All Man Utd players in first pre-season training under Ruben Amorim‘focused’on single demand, his actions say it all

Every Manchester United player who reported to the Carrington training complex for pre-season training witnessed first-hand what to expect from Ruben Amorim going forward.

Ruben Amorim has been preparing at Old Trafford ahead of the start of the pre-season tour for Manchester United in Europe and the United States this summer.

Some United first-team players reported to the Carrington training complex on Monday for their first-ever pre-season training under the current Red Devils boss.

Amorim is now able to put his United players through their paces for the first time in a full pre-season campaign ahead of the 2025-26 Premier League season.

The 40-year-old United manager was brought to Old Trafford during a turbulent 2024-25 campaign after Erik ten Hag was sacked by the Red Devils last October.

Amorim left his role as Sporting CP head coach during the 2024-25 season and struggled to turn around the Red Devils’ languishing Premier League form.

Manchester United confirmed a list of 15 players who had reported for first-team training at Carrington on Monday, following the end of the post-season tour in May.

The Red Devils have revealed that further first-team players will trickle into pre-season training throughout the week, as Ruben Amorim continues to work towards the tour.

Amorim has been afforded his first real opportunity to begin the overhaul of his United squad this summer and put the stepping stones in place for his long-term vision.

Manchester United’s official website shared details from the first pre-season training session that former Sporting CP manager Amorim had held at Old Trafford.

It has been reported that Amorim put the United squad through a “tactical drill” and put the Red Devils players through “specific attacking patterns of play.”

But the key detail came with Amorim’s “later exercise” after the United players had to show their “pressing” ability, with the Portuguese coach putting his foot down.

Why is the ‘pressing’ drill from the Man Utd pre-season training so important for Ruben Amorim?

Amorim rolled out his tactical system at United and the Red Devils struggled to immediately adapt to his formation and philosophy amid the 2024-25 campaign.

The United manager yielded mixed results from his tactics last season, with the Red Devils performing much better in the Europa League than in the Premier League.

Speaking ahead of Amorim’s arrival from Sporting last November, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher highlighted the all-important demand to ‘press’ under the manager.

“When I’ve seen Sporting Lisbon play, these two central midfield players don’t just sit and not move,” he said on Sky Sports in 2024.

“In terms of pressing, they will sometimes push right up and be really aggressive on the opposition’s central midfielders. It will be about energy there.”

United’s pre-season tour will begin on 19th July and the Red Devils will face rivals Leeds United at the Strawberry Arena in Sweden.
