Seasoned West Ham watchers will take little comfort from being proved right in their hunch, having read reports at the weekend of the Hammers links with hugely talented Zion Suzuki. The ‘£40 million’ goal keeper linked with just about every top side at just 22 years old, and one of the hottest properties in the market place was reported to be in ‘advanced talks’ with the Hammers just a few days ago.
Sadly Suzuki’s club Parma have poured cold water in the prospect of a West Ham deal, making it clear that their young superstar is most definitely not for sale, especially at the reported £22million which West Ham were prepared to bid. Plus ça change….
German newspaper BILD have a much more likely candidate linked with the Hammers – Werder Bremen, who, like the Hammers, have stated just about everyone from their squad is for sale.

Step forward Michael Zetterer, 29 year old ‘keeper who according to transferfeed.com:
“Michael Zetterer is on the [interested] list of West Ham United…He is currently contracted with SV Werder Bremen until 2027. ….Despite being the current first-choice goalkeeper, the 29-year-old faces competition from Mio Backhaus, a promising 21-year-old talent, who recently extended his contract with Werder Bremen and is seen as a potential successor. Transfermarkt currently estimates his market worth at 4.50 million euros.”
10% of the price of Suzuki. Very West Ham. Trouble is it would seem Zetter is not even the nailed-on first choice at Werder Bremen. Which sounds as if Wes Foderingham might give him a run for his money as second choice at West Ham. Uninspiring indeed. Here’s one rumour we hope proves 100% wrong. Haven’t seen him play so it would be unfair to be too ‘down’ on his ability though.
I cannot help glancing back wistfully of the talk just last week of bringing in Leicester’s very talented young Mads Hermansen who could go straight into the starting eleven in August.
