“I’d take him at West Ham” - Ferdinand tells Potter to sign £120,000-a-week star who's now…

Anton Ferdinand has exclusively told GIVEMESPORT's Market Madness podcast that West Ham should make a move for Jordan Henderson.

The former Liverpool captain is set to become a free agent this summer after agreeing to terminate his Ajax contract a year early, after a tumultuous time in Amsterdam since returning to Europe following a short spell in Saudi Arabia.

The England international has been heavily linked with a return to the Premier League, with former club Sunderland reportedly showing a keen interest in his services, but his former teammate believes he should make a move to east London instead.

Ferdinand: West Ham Should Sign Henderson

"He's a leader and we need midfielders"

Henderson, who earns £120,000-a-week with Ajax, is a Premier League and Champions League winner from his time with Liverpool, but is now 35-years-old and past his best.

But with Graham Potter looking to strengthen the West Ham squad while working on a budget, the addition of Henderson's experience and quality is something that Ferdinand believes could be too good an opportunity to pass up this summer.

"I'd take him at West Ham, I'll say that now.

"He's still got legs, he can still get around the pitch, which is something that we need in the middle of the park at West Ham. "He's a leader, you know, and I say this all the time but I knew from the minute that he came in at [Sunderland], and I started being around him, I saw things in him that I knew he was going to go on and do what he done in the game.

"As a West Ham fan, sitting here talking to you guys, we need midfielders and I would take him all day long."

Ferdinand and Henderson spent three seasons together at the Stadium of Light, with Ferdinand an established member of the first-team while Henderson was breaking into the squad as a youngster.

West Ham currently have midfield options including James Ward-Prowse, Edson Alvarez, Guido Rodriguez and Tomas Soucek, but the expectation is that at least two of those will be allowed to move on and that could create space for the veteran Henderson to join the squad.
