"Top player": Moises Caicedo names former Man City star as his toughest opponent

Manchester City fans have witnessed some incredible players in sky blue over the last 15 years.

Pep Guardiola has been credited with making many Man City stars better, and the legendary coach will receive most of the praise for the success the Manchester club have had over the last 10 years, an era in which every trophy was won and multiple records were broken.

However, the Spanish coach would not have been able to achieve this without the players he had available to him, with the likes of Vincent Kompany, Yaya Toure, and Sergio Aguero all helping deliver important titles.

Many of the Manchester club’s superstars have received a lot of praise in recent years, and that has continued with Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo, who has named a Man City legend as the toughest player he has ever played against.

Moises Caicedo names Kevin De Bruyne as his toughest opponent

Kevin De Bruyne is regarded by Bernardo Silva and many others as Man City’s greatest player of all time, and the Belgian superstar is undoubtedly a Premier League legend.

Wayne Rooney recently picked De Bruyne over Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, and the praise for the 34-year-old has not stopped there, as Chelsea duo Caicedo and Romeo Lavia have named the Belgian as the toughest player they have ever played against.

“I will say Kevin De Bruyne. Top player!” Caicedo told the Footebatewill TikTok account.

It is not a coincidence that both players are defensive midfielders at Chelsea, and know more than anyone how good De Bruyne was in the Premier League, as the Belgian would have been operating in similar areas of the pitch as the Blues stars.

De Bruyne has now taken his talents to Napoli for the upcoming season and beyond, and Serie A defences will get to understand what it is like to try and stop the Man City legend.

Kevin De Bruyne’s Man City career in numbers

Man City fans do not need to see numbers to conclude that De Bruyne is the greatest player they have ever seen at their club, but the Belgian’s stats do him even more justice.

The midfielder made 422 appearances during his 10 years at the Etihad Stadium, producing 108 goals and 177 assists across 31,071 minutes of action in a sky blue shirt.

De Bruyne left Manchester with six Premier League medals, while being part of teams that won two FA Cups, five EFL Cups, three Community Shields, one Champions League, a UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup.

From an individual point of view, the Belgian was crowned PFA Players’ Player of the Year on two occasions in 2020 and 2021, while winning Man City’s Player of the Year four times.

The midfielder also finished third in the 2022 Ballon d’Or rankings, which was his highest when it comes to football’s biggest individual prize.
