Arsenal contact Chelsea as Madueke pursuit heats up

According to The Athletic, Arsenal have opened negotiations with Chelsea over the transfer of Noni Madueke, after the winger agreed personal terms on a five-year contract.

The 23-year-old England international has been a regular under Enzo Maresca but appears ready to cross London in search of a new challenge on the flanks at the Emirates. On paper, he’d be an understudy to Bukayo Saka, although there’s talk of him also playing off the left.

Madueke joined Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven in 2023 for €35 million after five productive years in the Netherlands. Before that, the Barnet-born wide man came through the youth ranks at Crystal Palace and, regrettably, Sp*rs.

Transfermarkt currently values him at around €40 million, but Chelsea are expected to hold out for significantly more. They’re reportedly using the imminent £55 million move of Anthony Elanga, who’s of a similar age and profile, from Nottingham Forest to Newcastle as a benchmark.

Arsenal have been linked with several Premier League wingers this summer, including Eberechi Eze, Anthony Gordon and Morgan Rogers. It’s unclear whether Madueke was scouted as part of the same shortlist or if he’s a distinct target for Andrea Berta.

Madueke is currently in the USA, where he’s helped Chelsea reach the final of FIFA’s Club World Cup. Should a move materialise, he’ll presumably take a break before linking up with Arteta’s squad for pre-season.
