The Premier League have confirmed that Arsenal’s matches with Leeds United and Liverpool have been moved after they were selected for broadcast in the UK by Sky Sports.
Leeds still visit the Emirates on Saturday 23 August, but kick-off will now take place at 5.30pm – an extra couple of hours to get the beers in before taunting the worst club that ever existed.
Meanwhile, the Gunners’ trip to Anfield will now fill the 4.30pm slot on Sunday, 31 August. It’s hardly surprising that it’s been given top billing, given the sides finished first and second last year.
Sky Sports had already selected Arsenal’s season opener for their Super Sunday coverage on 17 August.
Assuming the Premier League sticks to their commitment of giving a minimum of six weeks’ notice, we should get confirmation of September’s broadcast picks in the next couple of weeks.
