Manchester United’s pursuit of a new striker to replace Rasmus Hojlund at Old Trafford has been a failure so far, with the Victor Osimhen being the third target The Red Devils have missed out on.

First was Lim Delap who chose to join Chelsea with their lure of Champions League football.

Next is Viktor Gyokeres who looks set to join Arsenal over reuniting with Ruben Amorim.

Now comes Victor Osimhen who’s all set to make his loan move with Galatasaray permanent, with the Turkish side paying his £65 million release clause.

However, as happens with the transfer market, Osimhen’s move could well have dealt Manchester United a double blow in their pursuit of a different shortlisted striker.

Corriere Fiorentino has reported that Manchester United are joined by Galatasaray and Napoli in their interest in Fiorentina striker Moise Kean.

United have been linked with Kean for some time now, but with their targets slowly being picked off one by one, new considerations will need to be had around their existing options, such as Kean, Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and even free agent Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

However, despite reports saying Galatasaray are interested, their signing of Osimhen could definitely take them out of the race for Kean.

As such, United would only be up against Napoli for the Italy international, however with the Serie A side having a major advantage thanks to the funds from Osimhen’s sale.

With the £65 million fee from Galatasaray, Napoli could trigger Kean’s release clause of £45 million, still having £20 million to spare.

Whilst this release clause is more affordable compared to other strikers in the market, United are still in need of making sales before being able to make other new signings beyond the upcoming deal for Bryan Mbeumo, leaving the door open for Napoli, if they can sort out personal terms with Moise Kean.
