Tottenham Hotspur jeopardise Manchester United move for Bryan Mbeumo

Manchester United’s pre-season preparations are well underway, with Ruben Amorim determined to his sides fortunes around ahead of the new campaign.

With Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon already in the building, attention has shifted to securing a prolific wide forward – and all signs point to Bryan Mbeumo.

The Brentford star has made his intentions clear, favouring a move to Old Trafford, and the Red Devils remain confident of striking a deal.

Personal terms are believed to be agreed, and discussions with Brentford continue over the fee, with the Bees holding out for a figure in the region of £65 million.

But United’s hopes of securing Bryan Mbeumo may have just taken an unexpected hit – and it’s come from North London.

Tottenham Hotspur have reignited their interest in Brentford’s Yoane Wissa, a player they previously tracked in January.

While no formal contact has been made between the two clubs yet, Spurs have reportedly been exploring the conditions of a potential transfer and remain keen to sign the Congo international.

Brentford, aware of Tottenham’s lingering interest, are open to discussions – but privately believe they are unlikely to part with both Wissa and Mbeumo in the same window.

Wissa has just one year remaining on his current deal, making him a more accessible target for Spurs, both in terms of transfer fee and wage demands.

Should Tottenham make a successful move for Wissa, Brentford would almost certainly take Mbeumo off the market, effectively blocking Manchester United’s pursuit, as reported by Sky Sports.

Interestingly, Spurs themselves had been in the frame for Mbeumo earlier in the window when they sounded out Brentford around the time they appointed head coach Thomas Frank.

However, Mbeumo’s desire to join Manchester United led to talks with Spurs collapsing.

The situation now poses a delicate conundrum for United.

If Spurs act quickly, they could eliminate United’s top wide forward target before a deal is completed.

Manchester United may now need to accelerate their move for Mbeumo – or risk losing out once again in the transfer market.
