14) What was the most underrated move of the offseason?
Matt Citak: The Giants made some big additions to both sides of the ball this offseason. On the offensive side, most of the attention has been focused on the quarterback room, and rightfully so. Veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston were both added during free agency, while Jaxson Dart was taken in the first round of the NFL Draft. On defense, the Giants made three big splashes, first with the signings of cornerback Paulson Adebo and safety Jevón Holland during free agency, and then with the selection of outside linebacker Abdul Carter with the third overall pick. While these moves may have drawn the most buzz over the last few months, one that has seemingly slipped through the cracks was the addition of defensive lineman Roy Robertson-Harris.
Finding someone to line up next to Dexter Lawrence was a big priority for the Giants this offseason. The front office took several swings at filling that hole between Robertson-Harris, Jeremiah Ledbetter, and even Chauncey Golston in free agency, along with taking Darius Alexander in the draft. But listening to defensive line coach Andre Patterson talk during minicamp, the veteran coach clearly thinks we have yet to see the best from the veteran defensive lineman.
"There's a lot of growth left in him," Patterson told the media during minicamp. "And he's hungry and he comes out every day to get better. So, I'm really excited about where he could go. ... Roy has a bunch of upside. I mean, he has not even come close to reaching his potential."
The veteran has multiple sacks in seven of his eight NFL seasons, with the lone exception coming in 2020 when he only played eight games. Robertson-Harris also has four different campaigns with 10+ quarterback hits. If Patterson believes he can take Robertson-Harris' game to another level, then I for one am very excited to see what he can do, especially with Dexter Lawrence and the three edge rushers drawing most of the attention from opposing offensive lines.
