Simons was acquired from the Portland Trail Blazers in the trade that sent Jrue Holiday the other way.
However, with Boston’s current backcourt depth and cap considerations, the 26-year-old may be moved again before the season tips off.
He is on an expiring $27.7 million contract, which gives the Celtics flexibility to either clear space or collect future assets.

Simons could attract interest from teams looking for scoring and perimeter shooting on a short-term deal.
Last season, Simons appeared in 70 games and averaged 19.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game.
He shot 42.6% from the field and 36.3% from three-point range, showing his ability to create offense both on and off the ball.
