The Cleveland Browns have had an interesting offseason. While they didn't make many aggressive moves, they added a four-man quarterback competition to the roster.
One of the big things that Andrew Berry did not do was to bring in another starting caliber wide receiver. Jerry Jeudy was great last season, but there is a major need for more talent at the position.
Many thought that improvement would come during the 2025 NFL Draft. Travis Hunter was widely expected to land with the Browns, but Berry traded the pick. He ended up not taking a single wide receiver throughout the entire draft.
With that being said, there is a star wide receiver who could be available for trade. That star wide receiver is none other than Washington Commanders veteran Terry McLaurin.
Could Cleveland consider making a play for McLaurin? The franchise certainly isn't the most likely trade suitor if McLaurin is moved, but the Browns are a team to keep an eye on.
Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com has suggested that the team should at least consider the option. She doesn't expect a major trade for a player like McLaurin, but has suggested it's at least worth considering.
"Once a Terry McLaurin comes along, you have to at least consider it. You have to at least look into it, Weigh the pros and cons and determine what that might look like over the next four years or something like that," she said.
"I wouldn't rule it out, but I don't get the sense right now that they're looking to add a big, high-priced receiver."
More than likely, Cleveland will steer clear of McLaurin. But, if the front office decide to get aggressive in trying to win sooner rather than later, he could be an option.
During the 2024 NFL season with the Commanders, McLaurin had another highly productive campaign. He caught 82 passes for 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns.
At 29 years old, there could be concerns that McLaurin would not fit the Browns' timeline. They still don't know who their quarterback is going to be. It doesn't seem like the best time to make a big swing on a blockbuster wide receiver trade.
It will be interesting to see what Berry and the front office chooses to do. The most likely scenario is that Cleveland sticks with its current roster entering the 2025 season.
On the other hand, if the Browns were to make a move for McLaurin, that would signal a desire to win now. That could change everything about the immediate future for the team.
