Having shown willingness to join by agreeing personal terms with Arsenal, Noni Madueke’s time could indeed be coming to an end at Chelsea, with the two teams now engaged directly over a transfer. According to The Athletic, Arsenal “have made contact” and we are “now in talks”.
Whether those talks actually result in a transfer will obviously depend on whether we can agree a fee. There’s said to be some initial distance between the teams in terms of that, but that’s why we’re negotiating. If there wasn’t a distance, we would not need to talk (much). Chelsea are reportedly looking for “more than £50m”, which in today’s market should be a reasonable target.
Madueke had been a first-team regular since joining from PSV two and a half years ago, but in recent months, had fallen behind Pedro Neto in the pecking order. While it would not be ideal to strengthen Arsenal in this way, this transfer would go a long way towards fixing our UEFA transfer balance calculation for next season’s Champions League squad registration.
