Simon Jordan cannot wrap his head around the fact Newcastle United have been in transfer talks with Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Geordie Boot Boys have been told that Newcastle have been in talks with Calvert-Lewin, who is available on a free transfer after leaving Everton.
Newcastle are in hot pursuit of a new forward following Callum Wilson’s departure. While Alexander Isak will almost certainly start when fit and there is excitement about William Osula’s development, the Newcastle United squad remains light for striking options.
Calvert-Lewin has long been linked with a move to St James’ Park. He almost joined last summer, but a deal with Everton broke down.
The 11-cap England international is an option to replace Wilson, although that doesn’t necessarily mean he will end up signing.
Jordan, however, is surprised even by the fact there have been talks.

Simon Jordan doesn’t understand why Newcastle United have talked to Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Speaking on talkSPORT, the former Crystal Palace owner expressed his disbelief that talks had taken place.
He suggested Wilson was much better than the 28-year-old, while referencing Calvert-Lewin’s injury record.
MORE NEWCASTLE STORIES
The forward missed 15 games last season and has frequently struggled with injury during his time at Goodison Park.
For their part, Newcastle are concerned about Calvert-Lewin’s injury record.
“I’m not an admirer of Calvert-Lewin,” he said.
“I think he’s a decent player. I don’t really understand the thinking behind it. I agree with Danny [Murphy], I think Callum Wilson is infinitely a better player and more of a goal threat.
“If they’re worried about his [Wilson’s] fitness, then surely they must have the same thinking about Calvert-Lewin.”
Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injury record in numbers
The sheer number of games he’s missed is a worry.
Part of the problem with Wilson was that he frequently missed large portions of a season, so potentially replacing him with a player with similar issues would be confusing.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injury record
The hope would be that the fact Calvert-Lewin wouldn’t need to start every week would help avoid his body breaking down.
On the right kind of deal, it would be a logical addition. Still, the injury record is something to consider if talks ever truly advance.
