Napoli Expected to Make Improved Darwin Bid Following Osimhen Sale

Darwin Nuñez has always been expected to depart Liverpool this summer. The striker regressed in 2024-25 under manager Arne Slot and the consensus is that a change in scenery would both the player to move on and for the Reds to invest in a new striker.

Early on, the chatter focused on the Saudi Pro League and Atletico Madrid. The player’s desire to remain in Europe saw the Saudi rumours fade, and when it became clear Atleti lacked the finances to get a deal done focus shifted to Serie A side Napoli as the likeliest landing spot.

That culminated in rumours of a £47.5M (€55M) bid on Tuesday. However, that bid fell short of Liverpool’s expectations. Now, though, following reliable reports have Napoli’s want-away striker Victor Oshimen is close to a €75M Galatasaray move, an improved bid is expected.

It has previously been reported Liverpool want around £60M (€70M) for Nuñez. Despite the 26-year-old striker’s inability to take the next step with the Reds, he remains a phenomenal physical talent entering his prime years, one who has shown he can generate scoring chances at an elite level.

If his sale does eventually get completed, Liverpool will be expected to move quickly for a replacement—and there were plans to do so even before the tragic death of Diogo Jota. A potential sale of Luis Diaz could further impact the club’s recruitment this summer.
