Report: Negotiations continue despite rejected bid - Liverpool not bowing to pressure

**Liverpool are working on selling Darwin Nunez but they will not accept offers lower than their asking price.**

The Reds have shocked the football world with their incredible transfer work. Beating Man City and Bayern Munich to Florian Wirtz is as impressive a transfer you will see this summer.

Yet, signing Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong arguably address the more pressing lack of quality at fullback and need for a Trent Alexander-Arnold replacement.

Liverpool have also added three new goalkeepers to their ranks with the additions of Giorgio Mamardashvili and Freddie Woodman while 19-year-old goalkeeper Armin Pecsi is one for the future.

Liverpool not ready to accept lowball offers for Darwin Nunez

Liverpool have already knocked back an offer from Napoli and are prepared to reject further offers that don’t stand up against their demands.

The Italians’ offer to Liverpool was worth €50m (£43m) but was swiftly rejected. According to [Rousing the Kop](https://www.rousingthekop.com/2025/07/09/how-much-liverpool-are-willing-to-sell-darwin-nunez-for-after-rejecting-napolis-first-bid/), the Reds want €75m (£65m) for the 26-year-old.

Negotiations are continuing despite the rejected bid and RTK reports that “there is confidence from both sides that they can strike a deal.”

Speaking to Rousing the Kop, journalist Graeme Bailey says Liverpool are holding out for their asking price and aren’t going to be bullied into accepting an even bigger loss on the £64m invested in Nunez in 2022.

“Sources from both clubs confirm that a deal is not close, but they are not negative about the talks they are progressing,” Bailey said.

“Yes the opening offer is wide of the mark, but from Napoli’s point of view it highlights how serious they are about Nunez. They want him and the player wants them.

“Liverpool are ready to move on from Nunez, but they want to recoup what they see as his value.”

Liverpool are world class at extracting shock transfer fees from buying clubs

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Very few clubs have as good a track record as Liverpool do when it comes to extracting surprisingly high fees for their departing players.

Yet, I will be truly astounded if Liverpool can convince any club outside of Saudi Arabia to part ways with £65m for Nunez.

The Uruguayan is a very good player – 46 goals and 22 assists in three years is not as bad as some make out – but he’s not a £60m+ player as much as Liverpool fans have tried to believe.

That said, if Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards can get that figure for him, it will go down as one of the best sales in Liverpool history.
