Liverpool are interested in striking an £86m double deal for two Barcelona players in the summer transfer window, according to an exciting new transfer claim.
There is still plenty of time for Arne Slot to add to his Reds squad, with Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez already brought in since the end of last season.
Reinforcements at centre-back and in midfield are arguably needed for Liverpool, and a new rumour suggests a double raid could be on the cards.
According to a report from Spain, the Reds are interested in signing both Andreas Christensen and Fermin Lopez from Barcelona in a double deal worth as much as £86m, with sporting director Richard Hughes looking to work his magic.
Slot is believed to see both players as key acquisitions, with £68.6m the amount planned to be spent on Lopez, who is an exciting young midfielder.
Former Chelsea defender Christensen would be comfortably the cheaper of the two, with the Dane only having one year remaining on his current Barca deal.
A double signing that would be great for squad depth
Both Christensen and Lopez could represent shrewd purchases for Liverpool, not necessarily coming in as guaranteed starters, but enhancing the depth in Slot’s squad.
The former is a proven Premier League player, having made 93 appearances in the competition, and at 29 years of age, he is an experienced head who would provide good competition for Ibrahima Konate.
Meanwhile, Lopez is seven years Christensen’s junior, scoring six goals and registering five assists in La Liga last season, also being hailed as “incredible” by football talent scout Jacek Kulig.
At 22, he could come in as a squad player, perhaps even replacing Harvey Elliott in attacking midfield if the Englishman leaves Liverpool this summer.
His versatility also allows him to shine in a deeper midfield role and on the left wing, which is even more beneficial in terms of depth, and he is at a point in his career where he should only improve as the years pass.
Whether a younger centre-back option than Christensen makes more sense is up for debate, but the Denmark international would likely be a solid addition who could hit the ground running from the start.
