Houston Texans Legend J.J. Watt and Wife Make Considerable Donation Amid Floods

Amidst the chaos of the Texas flooding disaster, the restaurant Grape Juice, located in Kerrville, Texas, has caught the attention of the nation as the owners Daric and Heidi Easton work to supply first responders and displaced survivors with warm meals and supplies.

They also caught the attention of Houston Texans legend JJ Watt and his wife, former National Women's Soccer League player Kealia Ohai Watt.

The couple took immediate action, donating $100,000 to the restaurant's GoFundMe. At the time of this publication, the fundraiser has reached $142,493.

During the Hurricane Harvey disaster in 2017, JJ, who played for the Texans for 10 years, started a foundation to help people displaced by the natural disaster. Watt helped to raise over $41 million, according to ESPN, becoming the largest crowdsourced fundraiser in history.

The Texans' organization, as well as the Dallas Cowboys, are also giving back to the afflicted communities.

On Sunday, the NFL shared a message on their socials that the Cowboys, Texans and the NFL Foundation would be combining to give $1.5 million to those affected by the deadly storms.

"The National Football League's two Texas-based teams-the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans-are uniting with the NFL Foundation to support the victims; families and survivors of the heartbreaking floods in central Texas," the post read. "Together, they will contribute $1.5 million to provide both immediate assistance and long-term resources to those most impacted by the catastrophic flooding."

Over the July Fourth weekend, flash floods swept through and devasted communities located across Texas' Hill County. As of July 9, there have been 110 confirmed deaths after heavy rain caused the flooding. Kerr County was hit the hardest, with at least 95 deaths, including 36 children, according to ABC News.

Rescue efforts are still ongoing, but hopefully with donations like these, the NFL community can make a positive impact on disaster relief.
