Joe Ryan’s name is starting to circulate in trade rumors — and the Boston Red Sox may be in the mix.
According to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, the Minnesota Twins right-hander has drawn the attention of multiple teams, including the Red Sox, ahead of the July 31 deadline.
Morosi did not suggest a deal is imminent — only that the Red Sox are [keeping close tabs](https://nesn.com/2025/07/red-sox-pitching-trade-targets-market-check/). Given Ryan’s affordable, team-friendly contract status, it would likely take a strong package of prospects and Major League talent for the Twins to move him. The right hander has two years of team control remaining through arbitration.
Minnesota is working within tight budget constraints and are evaluating ways to restructure their roster without adding major payroll.

With Ryan likely to command a sizable payday once he hits free agency in 2027, Minnesota could explore trade scenarios now while his value is high. He is expected to earn just around $5 million next season.
Ryan, who was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the seventh round of the 2018 MLB Draft, broke in with the Twins in 2021 after being dealt midseason.

The 28-year-old’s arsenal centers around a deceptive fastball that rides late through the zone, paired with a slider and changeup that help keep hitters off balance.
In 17 starts this season, Ryan holds an 8-4 record with a 2.74 ERA and has racked up 116 strikeouts — thirteenth most in Major League Baseball.

With the Red Sox sitting just one game out of an American League Wild Card spot, there is every reason to believe chief baseball officer Craig Breslow is exploring upgrades.
Whether Ryan becomes available remains to be seen — but the interest is there.
