Ruben Amorim to put ‘pressure’ on Man Utd star by replacing player’s teammate with talent who can ‘truly challenge’ him

Ruben Amorim has placed one first-team Manchester United player on the transfer chopping block ahead of the 2025-26 Premier League season, according to reports.

The 40-year-old Manchester United manager oversaw a turbulent 2024-25 campaign with the Red Devils after he replaced Erik ten Hag in the Old Trafford dugout.

Erik ten Hag was dismissed as United manager last October after a horror-show start to the Premier League season and the Red Devils’ form continued to falter.

United ended their lacklustre campaign in 15th place in the Premier League table, which is the Red Devils’ worst standing since the formation of the league in 1992.

Ruben Amorim could have ended last season on a high note after United reached the 2025 Europa League final in May, with the Red Devils facing Tottenham.

However, the Red Devils fell short on the night in Bilbao and Spurs inflicted a 1-0 win over United to secure the Europa League trophy at the San Mames Stadium.

Ruben Amorim’s stance on Man Utd duo Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir amid the summer transfer window

Ruben Amorim faced a further headache during the 2024-25 campaign after the underperformances from both Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir at Old Trafford.

Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana committed their own respective howlers last season and the Red Devils looked vulnerable at times with their options between the sticks.

Onana’s future at Manchester United has been in doubt in recent weeks after he failed to impress in his second full season at Old Trafford since his 2023 move.

The 29-year-old Cameroonian is expected to remain at the Premier League club for next season, with the Red Devils needing to reinforce other key positions first.

GiveMeSport reports that Amorim is keen to put real ‘pressure’ on Onana to deliver in the 2025-26 campaign and doesn’t want the United star to be ‘too comfortable.’

However, the publication claims the same can’t be said for Onana’s deputy, with Bayindir failing to ‘prove’ himself as a true ‘challenger’ for the player’s No 1 position.

Ruben Amorim is tipped to replace Altay Bayindir at Man Utd with a player who will challenge Andre Onana

GiveMeSport added that United want to bring in a ‘new custodian’ and Altay Bayindir could be offloaded from Old Trafford as a result of the transfer decision.

The outlet claims that United have ‘made further checks’ over the possibility of signing Senne Lammens from Belgian Pro League side Royal Antwerp.

Senne Lammens is under contract with Royal Antwerp until 2027 and the 22-year-old Belgian shot-stopper is valued at around £20m in the transfer market.

The Royal Antwerp player has been with his current side since 2023 and Lammens has played 60 times for the Belgian Pro League outfit’s senior team.

According to reports, United ‘are not planning to rush’ their pursuit of an alternative to Bayindir before their opening pre-season tour match against Leeds United.
