Wolverhampton Wanderers could steal a march on one of Europe's biggest teams in the transfer market this window, according to reports - with their move for Almeria youngster Marc Pubill 'accelerating' over the past few days as they enter the race for his signature 'with a vengeance'.

Wolves have already confirmed the double signing of Celta Vigo duo Fer Lopez and Jorgen Strand Larsen - the latter having spent last season on loan at Molineux - though that has been counter-acted by the departures of Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri, alongside the expiring contract of Pablo Sarabia. With money to spend, Wolves could opt for a move for Pubill to fix their defence for years to come.

The report by Fichajes states that Pubill has become one of the most-coveted names in the summer window, with the young Almeria right-back having sparked 'significant' international interest after establishing himself as a promising defender.

Although AC Milan were thought to be 'well-advanced' in their negotiations to land the 22-year-old after two years of superb performances in both La Liga and the Segunda Division, the situation is now thought to have changed 'significantly' in recent days - with Wolves entering the race with a vengeance.

The Molineux outfit are known for their strategic moves in the market, according to Fichajes, and have since accelerated contacts with Pubill's entourage and with Almeria. Their proposition is financially higher than the Serie A giants, as well as being more enticing on a playing level, which has appealed to both the 'powerful' former Levante player and the club.

Almeria failed to secure promotion to La Liga last season, and would thus welcome a sale for €15million (£12.9million) which has been established as a starting point for the talks. Pubill has shown remarkable progress in the past, with improved physicality, technique and attacking ability on the right-flank displaying room for growth, making him an attractive prospect for several teams in the top five leagues in Europe.

Wolves, meanwhile, could still lose Nelson Semedo with his contract having run out, and Pubill could be the ideal replacement for the Portuguese star with room to grow and an immediate starting spot likely to enhance his development even further in the Black Country.
