“I am told”: Fabrizio issues Liverpool warning over £80m transfer target

While recent reports have maintained that Liverpool are still interested in what would be a mega deal for Alexander Isak, links to Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike continue as well.

The French forward was superb last season, scoring 22 times while providing 12 assists. He’s also more than just goal contributions – he excels at linking play and dribbles better than a man standing at 6 foot 3 should be capable of.

Last week, Fabrizio Romano said that Liverpool were discussing internally whether or not to make a move for the 23-year-old.

Speaking on YouTube, the Italian journalist stated: “Liverpool are working on this deal. Liverpool are discussing the possibility of adding Hugo Ekitike to their squad.

“The idea of Liverpool is to have one more striker, and they are waiting to understand what happens with Darwin Nunez, with conversations ongoing with Napoli.

“Liverpool can add a new striker. They are waiting to find a solution for Darwin, so Hugo Ekitike remains a name on the list for Liverpool. Of course, this is not a deal happening today or tomorrow, so we need to be patient, but Ekitike is one of the names on the list for Liverpool.”

Romano has provided a fresh update this week with Liverpool being warned that there is a lot of interest in Ekitike from other Premier League clubs.

Liverpool are not the only Premier League club weighing up a move for Hugo Ekitike

While Liverpool don’t necessarily need to sell to buy even despite their huge outlay so far this summer, it does seem as though the Reds will only sign a new striker once Darwin Nunez has been sold.

So, hopefully that doesn’t mean Liverpool miss their chance to sign Ekitike or another striker given how few top forwards are on the market.

Romano reports: “His future remains open, but from what I am hearing the Premier League still remains the most likely destination for a striker who did fantastically last season.

“And I would maintain Liverpool as one of the options, because they have always had a strong interest in his signing. Let’s see what happens now with the timings, because Nunez’s exit will be important to understand how Liverpool move forward with Ekitike and more options up front.”

In a warning to the Liverpool, Romano added: “There is still interest from more English clubs and I am told the race remains quite open. But the story is not yet done and I am sure we will be back in the next weeks to discuss Ekitike and a move to the Premier League.”

Frankfurt are holding out for €100m (£80m) but time will tell if that’s a price Liverpool believe is fair for Ekitike.
