Leeds United suffer huge blow in talks with Premier League club

Leeds United have welcomed four new players at Elland Road this summer. But the club have only confirmed one exit during this summer window.

Max Wober joined Werder Bremen on a season-long loan with option to buy. The move was initially a permanent one, but the details were changed because of PSR.

Negotiations for all four signings went smoothly, with nothing being dragged along for days. Leeds have made sure that they sell their project to every player they approach to make the deal faster. This was also why the club missed out on signing Habib Diarra.

Talks were held initially, with Strasbourg open to sell. However, the midfielder was not really keen on a move, and the transfer fee was quite high. This meant Leeds refused the £30million price tag that Sunderland eventually paid.

Noah Sadiki, who was a target for the Whites, was also signed by the Black Cats. But there were no talks between Leeds and Union Saint-Gilloise.

This summer, the club have added three defenders and one center forward. The plan was also to add a midfielder, but the main two targets have been snapped up.

This week saw Leeds submit a £10million + £2million bid for Sean Longstaff. Newcastle finally decided to open doors for the 27-year old to leave. Now, Joe Donnohue of YEP has reported that the bid has been rejected, which has prompted Leeds to consider other options.

Deal for Bundesliga star to proceed

The Athletic has added that it will be very unlikely that the Whites submit a fourth bid for Longstaff.

Speaking of midfielders, Leeds still have concrete interest in Hoffenheim midfielder Anton Stach. It was reported earlier this week that the Whites have made contact over a move this summer. No fee or deal has been agreed yet.

Sean Longstaff would bring a different dimension to Leeds midfield

Leeds have a variety of midfielders who are great on the ball, and can control games. Most of them are physicality adept at winning duels too.

But the club still lack that one player with experience in the Premier League. Longstaff brings loads of that and a dynamic presence within both boxes. He can clean up defensively and also appear among the goals like in the 2023/24 season when he filled in for Sandro Tonali.

Now, Leeds might be forced to look for a similar profile somewhere else.
