Botafogo stand firm on John Victor price tag, Man Utd face Premier League competition for goalkeeper target

John Victor’s impressive displays at the Club World Cup led to the goalkeeper becoming a Manchester United target.

Ruben Amorim has several important decisions to make ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Manchester United are working hard to strengthen the squad this summer, with Matheus Cunha joining from Wolves and Diego Leon arriving from Cerro Porteno.

The Red Devils are trying to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford as Amorim attempts to bolster his attack by adding more goals to the team. Cunha scored 17 Premier League goals last term, which is three fewer than Mbeumo managed for Brentford.

Amorim will hope to improve other areas of his team, including the midfield, but it remains to be seen if he will sign a new goalkeeper amid questions over Andre Onana’s suitability as the first-choice option.

In turn, United have been linked with a number of goalkeepers this summer.

The 29-year-old is a key figure at Botafogo, having won the Copa Libertadores and Brazilian league titles, and he is under contract until 2028.

With United scouts in attendance, the 29-year-old started in all of Botafogo’s matches.

The race to sign John from Botafogo could speed up in the coming weeks as the owner of the Brazilian outfit is standing firm on a £10 million price tag, as reported by Bolavip.

It is understood that John will only leave Botafogo if a club matches that offer.

A previous report from GOAL Brasil suggested that John had a release clause set at just £6.25 million, although that clause may have expired or is no longer active.

It remains to be seen if Altay Bayindir has a future at Old Trafford or whether he will move in search of regular football.

Man Utd face Premier League competition for John

The Botafogo keeper could also have the opportunity to challenge Jordan Pickford for minutes at Everton.

According to Globo, Everton are set to rival United in their bid to sign John.

It all boils down to how serious United are about signing John, but all will be revealed in the coming weeks.
