The Minnesota Timberwolves are aiming for more success than a Western Conference Finals exit in the upcoming season, and based on their retention of most of their roster, they may achieve it. Their most significant loss this offseason was the departure of free agent Nickeil Alexander-Walker.
However, they signed Julius Randle and Naz Reid to contract extensions. In addition, they added two promising rookies for the future, at least one of which, Joan Beringer, should see some time on the court next season.
While they have yet to make any other significant offseason moves, they may still do so. Even if they don't, they still have Anthony Edwards as their franchise player, and the All-Star guard appears to be getting better each season.

Fans watched another disappointing postseason, as the team returned to the Western Conference Finals for a second consecutive playoff appearance, only to lose to the eventual champions.
And while it's been mere weeks since the NBA Playoffs ended, the DraftKings Sportsbook released its over and under odds for next season's win totals. As of Tuesday, July 8, the Timberwolves had a projected total of 51.5 wins for their 2025-26 NBA season.
As of this writing, the projected total has dropped slightly to 50.5 wins for the upcoming season, with the over being favored at -115. That means a bettor would need to risk $115 to win back $100 if the Wolves managed to get 51 wins or more next season.
On the flipside, their odds were -105 to win fewer than 50.5 games. That means a $105 bet would win $100 if the team wins 50 games or fewer.
It might seem to be an ambitious win total for Minnesota next season, especially in the competitive Western Conference. Above them on the DraftKings list are three Western Conference foes, including the Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets, and Oklahoma City Thunder.
In particular, Houston potentially upgraded their roster and playoff chances by acquiring superstar Kevin Durant in a blockbuster trade. Denver features two-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic, and the former champions could still pose a problem for most squads.
The reigning champions, OKC, sit atop DraftKings' early win total odds with a projected total of 62.5 wins next season.
According to Basketball Reference, the team achieved a 49-33 record last season and an impressive 56-26 record in the previous season. That was the franchise's second-best win total since they joined the league as an expansion team in 1989.
If the team remains healthy and Ant-Man continues his upward trajectory, achieving at least 51 wins appears within reach for the 2025-26 season. That said, this team's primary goal seems to be reaching the NBA Finals after consecutive seasons with exits in the Western Conference Finals.
While the new season is still months away, the Timberwolves will participate in the NBA 2K26 Summer League, featuring a roster of their rookies and younger players, including Beringer, Rob Dillingham, Terrence Shannon Jr., and others.
Fans can see their first game in Las Vegas against the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday via ESPN2.
