Major PSR issue could hit Leeds United if transfer goes through

PSR is something Leeds United are very wary of in the transfer market this summer. This can be seen in the amount that has been spent on actual transfers so far.

The Whites have made four additions to the first team, with the total outlay standing around £30million as it stands. Lukas Nmecha arrived on a free transfer, Jaka Bijol was signed for around £15million, Sebastiaan Bornauw cost just £5.1million and Gabriel Gudmundsson was acquired for around £10million.

Leeds chairman Paraag Marathe promised the fans that the club would spend ”every penny” to build a team for the Premier League:

“Together we are going to build the best squad we can with every penny we are allowed to spend to compete in the Premier League.”

Even with that, the club know they have to balance the books with sales later this summer.

Everton want Jack Harrison on a free transfer

One sale that could still happen this summer is Jack Harrison to Everton. The Toffees have recently discussed bringing the forward back to Goodison Park. Harrison has spent the last two seasons on loan at the Merseyside club.

It has been reported this week that David Moyes’ side are keen on brining back the winger as they see him as low-cost move to allow them to spend more funds elsewhere. Reports suggest Everton would be open to buying Harrison if Leeds can offer him on a free transfer.

Journalist explains PSR effect of possible deal on Leeds United

BBC Journalist Adam Pope has explained why Leeds agreeing to Everton’s demands would be a terrible move:

“Harrison’s future remains unclear. Back at pre-season training with Leeds United from another loan at Everton, he has three years left on his contract at Elland Road.” he wrote in the column on the BBC Sport website.

“My understanding is that Everton would be interested in taking him on a free transfer, but the implications of cutting a deal or paying up Harrison’s contract would have PSR implications for Leeds, who are carefully navigating through the financial parameters while bolstering their squad for the new season.”

What do Leeds do with Harrison now?

Harrison has three years left on his current deal and is one of the highest paid players at the club. Losing him for free is a big no. Leeds have to find a buyer for him and agree to a cut-price deal, since this looks like the only way out for the 28-year old.

Hopefully one club makes a move for Harrison to take him away from Elland Road.
