Bayern are interested in a Man United target, and they also reportedly hold an interest in Marcus Rashford.

A lot of the talk surrounding Manchester United this summer is about what they are going to do with Marcus Rashford, after the attacker returned from his loan spell at Aston Villa, and is set to leave Old Trafford permanently in this window.

However, it seems the Bundesliga champions are also keen to sign a striker that United want to sign. They could decide to move for him instead of Rashford, which would be somewhat of a double-edged sword for United.

Bayern to challenge Man United for Nkunku

He has been priced at £35m, and Man United are reportedly in negotiations to sign him, however, reports in Germany now suggest that they could face competition from Champions League side Bayern Munich.

According to a report by German outlet BILD, a deal is ‘underway’ for Bayern to sign Nkunku, with the player willing to move to the Allianz Arena, and Chelsea keen to sell the Frenchman permanently. It comes after Bayern attacker Jamal Musiala suffered a serious injury to his fibula over the weekend.

If Bayern do opt to sign Nkunku, who has previous experience in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig, it would prevent Man United from being able to sign the 27-year-old, and also close a potential door for a sale of Rashford, seeing as he is one of their other targets. Worse still, Bayern can offer Nkunku the promise of challenging for a league title and Champions League football.

Who could Man United target instead of Nkunku?

If the Red Devils do indeed lose out on Nkunku to Bayern Munich, they will have to consider other goal-scoring forwards as alternatives to the Chelsea star. One such name could be Fiorentina striker Moise Kean, who plays a similar style of game to that of Nkunku.

Kean was the second-top-scorer in the Serie A last season, and has been linked with a move to United. He is expected to be more expensive than Nkunku, as he has a £44m release clause, which expires next week on Tuesday 15 July.
