Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt lead race for James McAtee as £20m price tag set
TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey understands that Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt are currently leading the chase for James McAtee.
City and McAtee are set to part company this summer after talks over a new deal failed to find agreement earlier this year.
Now, with just 12 months left on his current deal, City are allowing him to move.
TBR Football can confirm that City have informed interested parties that a deal of around £20million will be accepted.
The 22-year-old firmly believes he has the chance to push for a place in Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad next year.
In order to do so, however, McAtee needs to be playing regularly – which is the main reason he opted to not engage over fresh terms.
A host of clubs have been interested and McAtee was the subject of bids from a number of clubs in January but now talks are ongoing with a host of interested parties.
We can confirm that Dortmund and Frankfurt, both of whom can offer Champions League football, are leading the chase, but RB Leipzig and Stuttgart are also firmly in contention.
There is interest in England too, and we can confirm that Tottenham, Fulham and West Ham have all had recent contact about McAtee’s situation.
Italian outfit Atalanta are also firmly in the mix for the England hopeful.
