Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is well aware that George Pickens doesn’t have the best reputation in the NFL. But after leaving Pittsburgh and getting a fresh start in Dallas, Prescott believes Pickens is poised to have a big year in 2025.
Speaking at his youth camp this week, Prescott was incredibly complimentary of the former Steelers wide receiver, who was traded to the Cowboys this offseason.
“That’s a guy that loves football, that loves football. I mean the guy’s telling me about my college days, and you don’t know about Mississippi State college days unless you’re a football guy,” Dak Prescott said. “And sure he’s from Alabama, and that’s right there in that region, but I mean players that I played with, guys from his region.
“That right there, that knowledge, that involvement, that shows you a guy loves football. And that, to me, deletes a lot of things that you’ve heard in the past about him.”
Dak Prescott recently held his annual players retreat in Georgia where he got to spend a lot of time around George Pickens and other Cowboys players, both on and off the field.
Following the retreat, Prescott was even more excited about what Pickens can bring to Dallas.
“Great dude, loves his teammates, and excited as hell for this season,” Prescott said. “I know he is, I know he’s happy to be in a fresh, new spot. And I’m excited for what he’s going to do for us.”
There’s no doubt that Pickens is talented. He caught 59 passes for 900 yards in 2024, and he is averaging 16.3 yards per reception for his career.
However, there’s also no doubt that having Pickens on your roster can cause some headaches. That’s what eventually led to the Steelers trading him to the Cowboys this offseason.
Despite that, after going through some offseason workouts and the recent players retreat with Pickens, Prescott is confident that Pickens will fit in just fine in Dallas and be a big-time playmaker for the Cowboys this year.
“I mean, go turn on that guy’s tape. He’s getting separation. He’s gotten separation even when he’s not getting the ball at times,” Prescott said. “And hell, when he doesn’t have separation, he’s still making the catches. … For me it’s about getting that ball near that guy and letting him go be George Pickens. And turn on the tape, he’s great at doing that.”
