If it weren't for Victor Wembanyama, people in NBA circles would be talking about Cooper Flagg like he is the next LeBron James, and he very well might be.
Flagg is one of the best prospects of all time, and the Dallas Mavericks landed a truly transformative player. It's not his fault that the most hyped prospect ever was selected just two years ago.
Unlike Wembanyama, Flagg can play several different positions, and Jason Kidd has already teased that he will be responsible for playing point guard for the Mavericks, even with D'Angelo Russell in town.
In college, Flagg showcased solid handles and facilitating abilities, but he has never been a true point guard, although he thinks it won't be too hard.
"I'm looking forward to it," said Flagg of the possibility of running point. "Coach Scheyer trusted me a lot last year, and I handled it a lot. I didn't bring it up at some, but, you know, in the half court I handled it a lot and set up a lot of different actions. So I think it's something I can do at a high level. So I'm excited to just experiment and do some new things."
Flagg is expected to be one of the most versatile young players in the league since perhaps Magic Johnson. LeBron, Wemby, Anthony Davis, and Zion Williamson were all marvels coming out of college, although they had defined positions. Flagg can do a little bit of everything and excel all over the court.
