As part of this, United’s new ground will be developed as a “centrepiece of a wider regeneration programme” spanning the whole city.

It’s understood that the area behind the Stretford End is currently occupied by the Freightliner Terminal, with plans for the terminal to move elsewhere, opening up the space for redevelopment.

However, The Daily Mail has reported that landowners Brookfield and United are failing to come to an agreement over the valuation of the land for sale, with a view the land-owners are attempting to “cash-in” over how vital the land is to the project.
Now, as “Chair-Designate” of the Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC) for the Old Trafford Regeneration project, Lord Coe with have significant pull over a potential deal.
It’s understood that if an agreement can’t be reached between United and Brookfield, in his new role Lord Seb Coe could step in a force a compulsory purchase order for Brookfield to sell the land.
The stadium is still expected to be open ready for the 2030/31 season nonetheless, with a bid going in for the ground to host the 2035 Women’s World Cup Final.
