Manchester United right-back Diogo Dalot is all set to change his shirt number ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season.
Already this summer we’ve seen Marcus Rashford be stripped of his number 10 shirt, for it to be handed to new signing Matheus Cunha.
Now, Dalot is the one in line for a change.
The talented Portuguese full back has been absolutely vital for The Red Devils, having covered the left-back role throughout the club’s extensive injury crisis under Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim where both left-back options, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, were out of action for well over a year.

Since Patrick Dorgu arrived from Lecce in the winter however, Dalot has returned to his right flank, set to take on the age-old Premier League tradition.
AmorimBalll has taken to X to reveal that as of next season, Dalot will be taking on the traditional number 2 shirt often handed to right-backs.
Up until now, Victor Lindelof has donned the number two, however with him having departed the club at the end of his contract, it’s now up for grabs.
However, there could also be two more factors at play here.

Firstly, brings hope to United fans, as giving Dalot the number 2 shirt frees up the number 20, giving Bryan Mbeumo the choice of either his number 19 that he’s been wearing at Brentford, or the number 20 we wears for Cameroon.
However, the second potential reason, is slightly more tragic, with the links to Liverpool’s number 20, Diogo Jota.
Jota and Dalot were teammates for Portugal, and after Jota’s sudden and tragic passing last week, both Dalot and Bruno Fernandes being given extended leave for bereavement.
With the number 20 now becoming symbolic with Jota, especially after Liverpool’s decision to retire the shirt number, it could be that a factor to the change of number comes out of respect for his former national teammate.
At this time it’s unknown why the change is happening, however, we look forward to seeing Dalot taking on his new number.
