Marcus Rashford’s Manchester United exit saga could drag on late into the window, sources have told Football Insider.

Rashford, 27, is heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford but his price tag of £40million has been putting a lot of clubs off.

Barcelona have shown an interest in the England international, but the Spanish giants are unlikely to have the funds to complete a permanent deal.

Hansi Flick’s side want an initial loan with an obligation to buy clause, whereas United want to cash in on their academy graduate this summer.

Man United work on finalising Rashford deal after Aston Villa decision

Ever since Ruben Amorim took over at Old Trafford, the writing has been on the wall for Rashford.

The Portuguese manager clearly doesn’t see the 27-year-old as part of his future plans and wants to move him on as soon as possible.

Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, but the Midlands giants opted against paying the £40m asking price to make the deal permanent.

Man United are struggling with finances currently, and need to get the winger off their books before they are able to pursue other deals.

Aston Villa respond to Man United interest in Watkins

Meanwhile, Man United’s pursuit of Ollie Watkins has left Aston Villa facing the prospect of a huge gamble this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Watkins followed up his career-best tally of 27 goals and 15 assists in all competitions with 17 and 14 respectively last season, as Villa finished missed out on Champions League football via goal difference.

The 29-year-old’s Premier League credentials are beyond doubt and Man United could fund a move for Watkins by selling the out-of-form Rasmus Hojlund.

Sources have told Football Insider that United’s pursuit of the Villa man will be difficult due to his status as the only out-and-out striker in Unai Emery’s current squad, after Jhon Duran’s move to Al-Nassr in January.
