Leeds United tipped to land 15-goal striker – Burnley also interested

Leeds United Joel Piroe ended last season with 19 goals in the Championship. He was a major part of an attacking side that ended the league season with 95 goals.

But even with his goal tally, he received close to the most criticism from Leeds United fans. Many were frustrated with his inconsistency as he often went long stretches without scoring. This summer, Lukas Nmecha has been brought in to provide competition up top. Last season Daniel Farke had to rely on Patrick Bamford and Mateo Joseph – the two only scored three league goals between them.

Piroe has made it clear that he will fight to keep his place in the upcoming season:

“When you play in the Championship, you know that you’re not looked at as much. But of course it’s nice to hear that you’re not forgotten. I think that if I show myself in the Premier League, they can’t ignore me anymore.”

QUIZ: Can you name the team Leeds United sold these players to?

Leeds linked with move to Josh Sargent

Despite signing Lukas Nmecha, Leeds are still in the market for a new center forward. Nmecha allows the club to spend actual money in the position because he arrived on a free transfer. Names like Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Callum Wilson have been previously linked with a move, but nothing concrete has developed so far.

One player that keeps popping up is Josh Sargent. The Norwich City star briefly played under Daniel Farke, but could yet follow him to Elland Road. Graeme Bailey recently revealed that Leeds are not out of the race when it comes to signing the American:

“Burnley are in for him. Whoever gets him is getting a bargain. He was so good. He’s so much so much better than he was [before]. I wouldn’t rule Leeds out of it.”

Move for Serie A star has stalled

Leeds were also in talks with Lecce over a move for Nikola Krstovic, but nothing has developed. Reports from Italy claim that the striker wants to stay in Serie A and is keen on a move to a club within the country.

It has gone quiet on the Leeds United front with respect to that deal.

Could Sargent be the solution up top?

Josh Sargent is an interesting profile of striker. He moves and plays like a number nine, but sometimes his game looks like it could develop beyond that. Sargent has also produced goals with consistency, leaving people to wonder if he can reach another level.

But the question is, will he be the man to lead Leeds in the Premier League? Frankly, no. The American plays more like an attacking midfielder while Piroe is more of an outright striker. Leeds should not be spending absurd amounts of money bringing in the Norwich man this summer.
