Jamie Carragher makes feelings on PSG perfectly clear amid Real Madrid rout

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has given the ultimate compliment to Champions League winner PSG, who knocked Liverpool out of the competition earlier this year en route to beating Inter Milan in the final.

With PSG racing into a 3-0 lead against Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the Club World Cup, Carragher was left hugely impressed by Luis Enrique's side. Fabian Ruiz scored twice, on either side of Ousmane Dembele's goal at the MetLife Stadium, to put the Parisians three goals up inside 24 minutes.

"Watching PSG is like watching Pep’s Barca!" Carragher posted on social media. "I can’t give them a higher compliment."

Since losing the likes of Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe, PSG has moved onto another level as a team, with Dembele emerging as the leading contender to win the Ballon d'Or and exceptional stars like Joao Neves and Vitinha excelling in midfield.

In the Champions League last-16, PSG hammered Liverpool at the Parc des Princes, somehow losing 1-0 after a stunning performance from Alisson Becker and a breakaway goal from Harvey Elliott.

Enrique's team went on to beat Aston Villa and Arsenal in the next rounds before smashing Inter 5-0 in Munich to lift the trophy. It is now set to take on Chelsea in Sunday's Club World Cup final.

"It was the best game of football I was ever involved in," Slot told reporters after being knocked out of Europe by PSG.

"I don't have the history that Liverpool has as a manager but it was two teams at an incredible level. It was an incredible intensity in the first 25 minutes.

"I also remember the first 25 against Manchester City at home and the first 25 against Real Madrid but this was unbelievable, what we showed in the first 25. But I looked at the scoreboard and we were 1-0 down.

"Over 90 minutes, I don't think we deserved to lose this game of football. Over 180 minutes, maybe it was deserved that we went to extra time. In extra time, I thought maybe PSG were a bit better than us, and then it comes down to penalties and we lost.

"Of course it's a shock and it's maybe not the moment to tell [the players] now but last season we weren't involved in the Champions League, the season before we went out losing 5-2 to Real Madrid at home. So if you have to go out, then go out in a way that we did against one of the best teams in Europe, making such a fight out of it.

"For us, it's so unlucky that if you are No.1 in the [league phase] table that you then face PSG who are one of the best teams in Europe, but that's the format we are in. We have to accept it and we will come back stronger next season."

Liverpool.com says: PSG has had a sensational season and will be the team to watch next year. Along with Liverpool, it should be viewed as the favorite to lift the Champions League trophy again.

The Reds were unfortunate to face PSG so early in the competition in Slot's first campaign in charge, especially after coming top of the table in the group phase. This time, Liverpool will hope for some more fortune in the draw.
