Rounding up the biggest new Premier League transfer rumours, with news from Man Utd, Aston Villa, Spurs and more.
The transfer window continues to move at quite a lick, and keeping up with all the likely comings and goings isn’t easy – so to make life easier, 3 Added Minutes are back with our latest round-up of the biggest new Premier League transfer rumours, starting with a story for Manchester United fans.
Supposedly, the Red Devils have “begun discussions” concerning a swap deal involving Vlahović and unwanted United winger Jadon Sancho, with Juventus said to be “long-term admirers” of the 25-year-old winger, who is free to leave Old Trafford after a failed loan spell at Chelsea.
It’s suggested that Sancho, for his part, might prioritise a return to Borussia Dortmund, which could scupper the move, but with other outlets reporting that Vlahović and Juventus could even agree to terminate the Serb’s contract and make him a free agent, perhaps that wouldn’t matter.
The 3AM Verdict: United have occasionally been linked with Vlahović but had generally been thought to be further back in the queue than other sides – but they want a genuine number nine and while inconsistent, the Serbian striker is as good as it gets when at his best. A Sancho swap deal sounds complicated enough that we suspect it’s unlikely, but if United really are in negotiations over Vlahović then they’ll have a very good chance of getting him in.
Aston Villa face uphill battle to complete €50m transfer
Over to Sport Witness now, who have a story which may concern Villa fans – because while they may have been linked to Vlahović, the Spanish press reckon that they’re more interested in Barcelona’s Ferran Torres. Sadly, negotiations don’t seem to be going very well.
Barcelona could, apparently, sell him for €50m (£43m) but Torres has a “hunger to prove himself” at the Camp Nou and has “no intention” of making a move back to England four years after he departed Manchester City.
Sport Witness do note that they’re unconvinced by the links to Aston Villa, who have been connected to Torres on several occasions without a bid materialising at any point – but in noting that Villa have reported financial issues and are thus unlikely to spend so much money, we wonder if they’re off the mark given a recent cash injection combined with a prior year of heavy losses no longer impacting the PSR calculations from the start of July.
The 3AM Verdict: We suspect that Villa are able to spend £40m or more on a key transfer if they so desire with the way that PSR works, even though they had tosell their women’s team to their owners in order to comply with them just a couple of weeks ago. We do share Sport Witness’ cynicism over the story as a whole, however – Villa haven’t been linked with Torres by the more reputable English outlets, and it feels like an old tale that’s been repackaged to fill some blank column inches.
Four sides in running for £56m Southampton starlet
Finally, an update on the future of Southampton’s rising star Tyler Dibling, who was heavily linked with a big-money move back in January but who doesn’t seem to be popping up on the rumour mill all that often despite his side’s relegation – but TBR Football reckon that things have still been happening in the background.
They name four Premier League sides as interested in striking a deal for the versatile young attacking midfielder, who is apparently valued by his club at up to £56m: Manchester United, Spurs, Forest and West Ham United are all “in pursuit”, it’s claimed – but no formal offers have been made as yet.
The article also quotes ousted former West Ham sporting director Tim Steidten as suggesting that interest from the Bundesliga (RB Leipzig were widely linked in the recent past) is unlikely to come to anything, suggesting that Dibling is simply too expensive for the top German sides. As such, the English teams have the edge – if they decide to make a bid.
The 3AM Verdict: Steidten is probably right about the price tag putting German sides off, but it seems to be doing the same for the Premier League teams, too. £56m, even in a structured deal, is simply a massive gamble for a player who has flashed plenty of potential but still only scored two league goals last season. Either Southampton decide to drop their asking price, or we suspect that Dibling stays put.
