The Kansas City Chiefs are gearing up for the start of the 2025-26 NFL season, looking to avenge February’s 40-22 Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Tight end Travis Kelce is back for Year 13 after contemplating retirement and will once again be catching passes from two-time NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes. Of Kelce’s 12,151 career receiving yards, 8,126 have come from Mahomes.
The two have been teammates since 2017 and have built a relationship that goes beyond football. They’ve traveled to New York for the U.S. Open with their significant others, Brittany Mahomes and Taylor Swift. They've played golf together and are set to open a steakhouse in Kansas City called 1587 Prime.
On Wednesday’s episode of Kelce’s podcast, "New Heights," the 10-time Pro Bowl tight end jokingly poked fun at his good friend’s voice while chatting with his brother, Jason Kelce, and Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy.

"I'm with you on the first time you meet him, man," Kelce said of Mahomes. "That first ‘What’s up, dog?’ That first, like, ‘Yo, what’s good,’ it’s like your family forever after you get that from him. Man, he’s such a good dude. I already know, he's gonna ace that part of the test every single time, and I'm sure the football IQ was already through the roof when he got in."
Since Mahomes entered the league, many have made fun of his voice, saying it sounds like Kermit the Frog. Eagles fans celebrated their Super Bowl win in February by burning a stuffed Kermit the Frog in the streets of Philadelphia.
Travis Kelce was only joking and made sure to highlight the kind of person Mahomes is. The former Cincinnati Bearcat did draw loud laughter from his brother and Nagy, though.
Kelce was responding to what Nagy said about all the good things they saw in Mahomes when evaluating him before the 2017 draft. He even called his quarterback "such a good dude."
