The biggest concern the Detroit Lions are facing heading into the 2025 season is attempting to replace center Frank Ragnow. For those outside of Detroit, it is hard to appreciate just what the consistent presence has meant to the Lions' offense. Even before Dan Campbell helped push the Lions into contender status, Ragnow was one of the few reliable pieces Detroit fans never had to question. Now, the team is tasked with replacing a franchise legend with a questionable group of potential options.
One idea the Lions have considered as a potential replacement is rookie guard Tate Ratledge. The Georgia product fits the team perfectly and is going to be an impactful addition no matter where he lines up.
With this in mind, it makes sense that Ratledge is going to be given a chance to replace Ragnow. In some ways, this sets up whoever takes the role for a level of failure. It is hard to reach the level of reliability of the former Detroit star. Still, it is the right decision with Ragnow's surprise retirement forcing the team's hand.

For those who may have missed it, Ragnow has an outdoors channel on YouTube focusing on a variety of the former lineman's hobbies. Ratledge posting a recent photo of his fishing trip invited this comparison and even furthered a level of excitement for what the rookie might bring to Detroit's roster. While replacing Ragnow isn't a fair expectation, it isn't out of bounds to believe Ratledge can quickly become an impact starter.
The advantage of spending so much time in a system like Georgia's is the fact that it consistently gives you an opportunity to match up against pro-level prospects. With this in mind, Ratledge was the correct choice to compete for the center position and is a great addition to Detroit's roster.
While the fishing comparison might be a bit tongue in cheek, it is a good reminder of the type of players Campbell and the Lions' front office are targeting. Ratledge brings a level of hardened intensity that is going to be welcomed for a team still searching for an elusive Super Bowl run.
