PSG loss shows a glaring problem Real Madrid must fix in the transfer market

Real Madrid's [loss to PSG](https://therealchamps.com/their-decision-psg-treble-winner-opens-up-on-real-madrid-exit) does not sting as much as the ones against Arsenal or Barcelona earlier this season, but it still does hurt.

Real Madrid got absolutely bullied with and without the ball, and it showed so many problems with the team that maybe Xabi Alonso would not have noticed without this match.

So, in a way, it is a blessing in disguise, but there is some light at the end of the tunnel as we now know that Alonso is the coach. It is not Ancelotti. The real work starts now.

One glaring problem that they would have definitely noticed was the defense. Real Madrid were, _checks notes,_ awful, against PSG. They could not defend for a minute to save their lives.

Within two passes, PSG were gone from one end of the pitch to the other, and the game was not fun from the start.

Real Madrid need a new central defender, even after Dean Huijsen

----------------------------------------------------------------

There were also two huge, costly defensive errors, one each by the central defenders Raul Asencio and Antonio Rudiger that led to two quick goals. Real Madrid simply have to do better. Their players need to be better defensively. They can't switch off.

However, this problem with Asencio has been [going on all tournament](https://therealchamps.com/real-madrid-s-worst-player-vs-psg-is-back-to-factory-settings). Rudiger has been average to decent at best, and downright problematic at worst since the start of the season. Is this the right time to sign a central defender?

In my opinion, absolutely. Real Madrid need one more signing in central defense, even after acquiring Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth. They need another player on the team, and they cannot afford to have any of these blunders anymore.

Real Madrid were finding space in PSG's defense before these two goals came and sucked all momentum and confidence out of the team. If these two mistakes don't happen, Real Madrid could have had a much better game.

Mind you, they still probably would have lost, but it would not have been a 4-0 loss to PSG. It would've been a loss where they go down fighting, trying their hardest. It wouldn't have been enough, but it also wouldn't have looked this bad. Signings are needed. More than Real Madrid thought they were.
