Mohammed Kudus is set for an awkward first meeting with his new Tottenham teammates after Spurs reached an agreement to sign him from West Ham in a deal worth around £55 million.
After having an initial £50 million offer rejected, Tottenham increased their bid, which has now been accepted by their London rivals. Kudus, 24, is expected to sign a six-year contract, with his medical scheduled for Thursday.
This transfer is seen as a significant move for new Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank, who has been eager to strengthen his attacking options this summer. Kudus, known for his versatility and exceptional dribbling ability, became a prime target after other options fell through.
Spurs had initially shown interest in Bryan Mbeumo, who impressed under Frank at Brentford with 20 Premier League goals last season. However, the French forward is reportedly favouring a move to Manchester United. Another target, Antoine Semenyo, opted to sign a new contract with Bournemouth, forcing Tottenham to shift their focus.
Kudus, formerly of Ajax, has attracted attention for his flair and adaptability across the frontline. Last season, he attempted 195 dribbles, completing nearly half of them, highlighting his ability to break down defences.
While the move strengthens Tottenham’s squad, it may create an awkward dynamic as Kudus prepares to join several players he faced during intense London derbies. Nonetheless, Spurs view his signing as a statement of intent as they reshape their squad under Frank’s leadership.
