NFL analyst pours cold water on smoldering Tyreek Hill to 49ers rumors

While the rumors about Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill wanting to force himself out of town via a trade aren't as prolific as some other disgruntled players around the league, they're still out there.

And, so, it's not too hard to connect dots suggesting a receiver-needy team like the San Francisco 49ers could be interested.

There's an argument to head coach Kyle Shanahan wanting to convince his buddy, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, to part ways with the aging-yet-still-speedy receiver amid Miami's own notable turnover, which hasn't been wholly unlike the widespread changes the Niners endured previously this offseason.

Particularly the shocking trade of All-Pro wide receiver Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders, which left San Francisco's receiver room notably short, especially with fellow wideout Brandon Aiyuk still nursing his ACL and MCL recovery.

So, as enticing as it might be for the 49ers to grab another All-Pro to effectively replace Samuel and guard against any delays in Aiyuk's return, the reality of Hill being traded to the Bay Area is slim, at best.

Especially according to one CBS Sports analyst.

Tyreek Hill trade rumors are overblown, according to one NFL analyst

Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports evaluated some of the more prominent post-minicamp storylines across the NFL, and it's no surprise Hill's future came up.

But, when looking at whether or not the veteran receiver would be traded between now and Week 1, Kerr concluded no such deal would happen, lumping the rumors into an "overreaction" category:

"Hill voiced his displeasure last season in Miami, and has three years remaining on his four-year, $120 million contract. The locker room culture had to affect him, along with the constant inconsistencies of the offense when Tua Tagovailoa was injured. When Tagovailoa plays, Hill is one of the most productive receivers in football -- but the 31-year-old Hill can be productive for any team.

Perhaps Hill forces a trade out of Miami at some point, but it won't be in training camp. The Dolphins are still playoff contenders when their offensive stars are healthy, and this is a make it-or-break it year for Mike McDaniel. They'll stay the course at the start of the year. "

About the only way Hill would receive a pre-Week 1 trade, including to a team like the Niners, is if an on-the-hot-seat head coach like McDaniel would sign off on it in an attempt to save his job, highlighting a transition year as a reason why Miami's eventual record and performance was substandard.

But that's hard to digest, especially if McDaniel is already squarely on the hot seat, which all indications suggest. Trading the speedy wideout at this point doesn't help the Dolphins' chances.

That doesn't mean a deal is fully avoided this year entirely, though.
