Sports Spotlight: Jake Kubas

BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - Not many Trinity Titans have gone on to play in the NFL. Jake Kubas has scratched and clawed all the way to the New York Giants’ 53-man roster.

Kubas now serves as a reminder of what his fellow Trinity Titans can accomplish.

Walk on, six years at North Dakota State, undrafted free agent, New York Giant: That’s Jake Kubas’ story so far.

“It’s been a long, hard journey,” said Kubas.

And he’s having a blast.

“When I’m playing football, I’m having so much fun. I just do some things that I don’t even know what I’m trying to do,” said Kubas.

Now, Kubas serves as something to aspire to for the younger Titans of Trinity High School

“That’s what we’re trying to do when we come back here,” said Kubas. “At the end of the day. I’m trying to represent this region and this community as best as I can, and to be able to do that at the highest level of football is very fun for me.”

Kubas’s rise to the NFL, however improbable it may have been, now serves as an example.

“Kids are always, their expectations in life are only going to be whatever they’re exposed to,” said Kubas.

And who better to deliver that message than one of Dickinson’s own?

“It doesn’t matter if you come from a town of 200 people, 20,000 or 100,000, you can achieve your dreams, wherever you’re at, they’re gonna find you if you put the work in,” said Kubas.

It may seem cliche, but “putting the work in” is what landed Kubas in the Big Apple.

“If you’re willing to go take on a guy that’s bigger than you, but you have the better technique, and you’re going to outwork him, you can win a lot of reps and you can go a long ways in this game,” said Kubas. “That’s one thing I wish I would’ve known growing up.”
