Russell Wilson, Key NY Giants Make Important Offseason Move

Since joining the New York Giants, Russell Wilson's veteran leadership has been on full display.

Recently, it was revealed that Wilson, along with "a bunch" of Giants wideouts, running backs, tight ends, and quarterbacks, have been out in San Diego working on their chemistry on and off the field.

On Tuesday, Wilson revealed the team took a trip to check out a San Diego Padres game.

Wilson knows well that it takes a lot to build chemistry and it doesn't just start with training camp. Although the Giants just wrapped up OTAs and minicamp, the work hasn't stopped. The veteran quarterback is hoping to be a major presence for the Giants, after they struggled with consistency at the quarterback position last year.

Daniel Jones was the starter for the Giants at the start of the 2024 NFL season. After 10 games, he was benched. Eventually, Jones was released. It was a mutual decision.

Drew Lock played eight for the Giants, throwing just 1,071 yards on 181 attempts. He tossed for six touchdowns and five interceptions.

Tommy DeVito appeared in three games, throwing for 257 yards and zero touchdowns on 44 attempts. Tim Boyle also got in on the action, completing 12 of his 24 passes in one game for 123 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

The Giants added two veterans to the quarterback room by signing Jameis Winston and Wilson for the year. They also drafted Jaxson Dart out of Ole Miss with one of their first-round picks in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Many writers and analysts have suggested that Wilson could struggle to maintain his position as a starter throughout the 2025 NFL season due to the fact that Jaxson Dart was drafted to become the next face of the franchise. With the rookie waiting in the wings, Wilson's leash is short.

Despite the narrative, Wilson has received plenty of praise from those working closely with him. Whether it's his receivers, coaches, or even the local media seeing him in action during minicamp, Wilson seems to be on the right path to having a bounce-back year after struggling with the Denver Broncos and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Soon, the Giants will be back at their team facility working through the next phase of the offseason at training camp. That will be a critical time for Wilson and the rest of the quarterback room.
