Diogo Jota: Truck driver who filmed video of car on fire gives fresh update on Liverpool star

The truck driver who filmed the video of Diogo Jota's Lamborghini after the initial crash provided a fresh statement on arriving at the scene of the accident.

Jota and his brother Andre Silva died last week after being involved in a single-car accident in Spain after the Lamborghini they were in suffered a blown tire as they attempted to overtake. Since then, Liverpool and the rest of the sporting world have been in mourning, with various tributes being shared in honor of the star.

As authorities continue to investigate the crash that claimed the lives of the two footballers, more information has been released by way of a truck driver who filmed the aftermath of the crash. In a new update, the truck driver, Jose Azevedo, gave more context on what he believed happened.

"I filmed it, stopped, tried to help, but unfortunately, there was nothing I could do," he said to the Daily Mail in Portuguese. "I have a clear conscience. I know what I went through that night because I didn't know who was inside. My condolences to the family."

Azevedo also made sure to tell the grieving family that he believed the Liverpool star was driving within the speed limit at the time of the accident. "[The family] have my word that they were not speeding," he continued to the outlet after the fact.

"I could see the make of the car, the color of the car. I drive this road every day, Monday through Saturday, I know what road it is, and it's worthless. It's a dark road, and I could see the make and color of the car, everything perfectly. Later on, unfortunately, that's how it ended."

A Civil Guard spokesman in Zamora gave their thoughts on the incident, though they did not give a time frame for when their investigation would be completed. "The full police report once it is completed will be submitted to a duty court in Zamora which has launched an ongoing judicial investigation into this crash," they said, per El Pais.

"That report is going to take time to complete, probably about four or five days but possibly longer. At this moment in time it is impossible to say at exactly what speed the car was going but that is something the Civil Guard investigators will be able to detail at least approximately in their final report from things like the skid marks.

"What I can confirm is that no other vehicle was involved and no one else was hurt."

As fans and the club continue to mourn the passing of the two stars, Liverpool fan channel Redmen TV unveiled a wall of condolence near Anfield in tribute. Andy Robertson also sent a message of mourning as the sports world continued to grieve.

"MacJota, our hearts are broken but feeling very grateful for the memories you gave us all!" he wrote. "I will miss you, love you brother. Robbo."

Arne Slot added: "Diogo, We had the same dream and we fulfilled it together. Andre and yourself will forever be in our hearts. Arne, Mirjam, Isa and Joep.

"For this reason, we need everyone at the club to stand together and to be there for one another. We owe this to Diogo, to Andre Silva, to their wider family and to ourselves.

"My condolences go to Diogo’s wife, Rute, their three beautiful children and to the parents of Diogo and Andre Silva.

"When the time is right, we will celebrate Diogo Jota, we will remember his goals and we will sing his song. For the time being, we will remember him as a unique human being and mourn his loss. He will never be forgotten. His name is Diogo."
