The Premier League striker has been linked with a move to Man United for several months.

Manchester United’s striker position is a big point of debate this summer, with many questioning who Ruben Amorim will start up front come United’s first game of the season against Arsenal next month.

United were in for Viktor Gyokeres, but it seems they have lost the race to sign him to rivals Arsenal, and other targets such as Victor Osimhen, Moise Kean, and Hugo Ekitike remain very expensive options.

Calvert-Lewin ‘open and excited’ to join Man United

Former Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is a much cheaper option for Man United as he is a free agent this summer following a spell of nine years at Goodison Park, which saw him score 71 goals in 273 games.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has said that Calvert-Lewin has been offered to United, and said on his YouTube channel that the 28-year-old is certainly interested in a move to Old Trafford this summer. He said: “The player has been offered as an opportunity on a free transfer, a cheap opportunity for a player who has experience, knows the league and can be helpful for any club.

“So Man United registered the eventual cost of the deal. It means, obviously, the salary, the commission, the intention of the player, who would be, obviously, very open and excited to join Manchester United eventually in this summer transfer window. But at the moment, it’s not yet a concrete negotiation.”

Calvert-Lewin struggled to create much of an impact last year at Everton, scoring just three goals in 26 Premier League games. He also faced injury problems last year, and is set for a fresh start, whether that be at Man United, Newcastle or elsewhere.

Rio Ferdinand tips United to sign Calvert-Lewin

Amid the current reports linking the 28-year-old with a move to Old Trafford this summer, previous quotes from former Man United captain Rio Ferdinand become even more pertinent.

Speaking on his podcast, Ferdinand said: “Dominic Calvert-Lewin for me, I love him. I've watched a lot of Everton this year and he's one that unnerves defenders. He's not one you want to play against week in, week out. He's aggressive, he attacks the ball.

“We've seen the rewards he's had, he's got into the England squad by scoring loads of goals in and around the six-yard box, scoring those ugly goals. I think he'd be a fantastic signing for Manchester United. It's one out of left-field a little bit but I think he'd have a big impact.”

Calvert-Lewin has a lot of Premier League experience, scoring 57 goals in 239 games, and he also has experience playing with United players Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw, having made 11 appearances for the England team, scoring four goals.
