Philippe Coutinho’s potential termination fee has been revealed after his Aston Villa exit has been confirmed.
The 33-year-old spent the past two seasons out on loan, having undertaken spells at Qatari side Al-Duhail and Brazilian club Vasco da Gama.
Villa have now decided to terminate Coutinho’s deal after he hasn’t played a single minute for the club since August 2023.
The Brazilian had one year left on the four-year contract he signed at Villa Park after joining from Barcelona for £17million in 2022.
Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Villa could have agreed to pay the attacking midfielder up to £7million to terminate his deal a year early.
Coutinho has now re-joined Vasco da Gama on a one-year contract.

Aston Villa could save £3m after Philippe Coutinho update
Borson revealed Villa could save £3million after terminating Coutinho’s deal early.
He told Football Insider: “It’s like any sort of negotiation.
“So, let’s say they would be paying Coutinho between now and the end of next season £10million of wages. They obviously don’t want to pay £10million.
“Coutinho thinks he can get maybe £2million in Brazil let’s say, so there’s an £8million difference that you’re asking Coutinho to sacrifice.
“Coutinho’s advisors say ‘Well, look, £8million paid over the year, maybe if we take £7million now, maybe that’s not a bad deal. We get the £7million in our pocket. We don’t need to wait. There’s no risk to us of something happening over the next 12 months. We can invest it for you in this, this and this’.
“This is the way people think. The time value of money is that we want the money now and you can get on with investing it and maybe we can make 12 per cent on that £7million difference, and so that’s how you come to a deal.
“He gets his money now. He’s not out of pocket because he goes and gets £2million. Anyway, the bottom line is, he wants to get the vast majority of what he’s owed.
“Aston Villa want to mitigate that as much as possible and they come to an agreement, and obviously there’s a big cost to Aston Villa in doing that. It brings all of that cost upfront.
“But there will be a saving for it. Maybe they save 20 per cent or 30 per cent in my example. They may save £3million of a £10million liability.
“Yes, they’ve got to pay it out now, but they’re happy because they saved £3million over the 12-month period.”
