Leeds United could end pursuit of £17M rated Premier League star

Leeds United have not hidden their pursuit of transfer targets this summer. The club have recruited three defenders and one attacker since the window opened.

The club is yet to address the midfield, mainly because two key targets have been snapped up by a Premier League club. Leeds were high on Strasbourg star Habib Diarra, they even had talks with the French club over a fee. However, the Whites’ reluctance to meet the asking price left the door open for Sunderland to swoop in.

Another target of Leeds, Noah Sadiki, also joined the Black Cats after Diarra was announced. The former Union Saint-Gilloise midfielder revealed that Leeds were one of the clubs he spoke to as he considered a move to the Premier League:

“Actually, I only talked to the people from Sunderland, Frankfurt and Leeds, who had also made an offer. My choice for Sunderland is also a kind of bet with myself. I want to know how it feels to play in the best league in the world and see where I stand against better teams.”

Sean Longstaff update

Earlier this week, it was reported that Leeds United had launched a third offer for Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff. A bid of around £10million + £2million was expected to be enough, but the Magpies rejected.

The Whites already agreed personal terms with the 27-year old. Longstaff was set to stay this summer, but changed his mind on a move in order to get a transfer fee for his club instead of leaving for free next year.

Leeds United could pull out of deal

According to Breren Cross, Leeds are not ”optimistic” of a deal progressing. The deal was expected to be a formality once the Magpies accepted to bid, but now, everything looks in doubt.

Almost every deal Leeds have been involved with has gone smoothly, and going by that, there is a chance that the club pulls out of a move.

Move for Anton Stach now a priority

Longstaff is a unique player, but his experience in the Premier League will no doubt be a key attribute Daniel Farke. Now, the focus must shift to Anton Stach.

The Hoffenheim man is a very good ball winner, and can progress the ball quickly in transition. If Leeds do land him, he can no doubt replace some of the qualities the club were looking for with Longstaff.
