‘Genuine interest’ from Sunderland – Black Cats €10m short of asking price

On Wednesday, journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported Sunderland could take advantage of Lyon’s financial situation to try and sign Georges Mikautadze for a reasonable price this summer.

Tavolieri took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to provide the latest on the Black Cats’ desire to sign the striker.

He claims Sunderland have ‘genuine interest’ in the 24-year-old and have already made an approach to find out the conditions needed to secure his services.

The Premier League newcomers have been hoping to bring in a new No.9 for €20m. This is €10m short of the fee requested by the French club to part ways with their player in the ongoing window.

Lyon’s price of €30m ‘appears too expensive’ for Régis Le Bris’ side and despite them showing keen interest in the Georgia international, they are unlikely to make progress.

Last month, France’s DNCG relegated Lyon to the second division, and they filed an appeal. On Wednesday, the French club were successful in overcoming this and will keep their place in Ligue 1 next season.

This means Sunderland or any other club will find it a bit more challenging to buy Mikautadze.
