Manchester City willing to activate clause – Looking at another South American talent

Over the past few years, Manchester City have signed Julián Alvarez, Máximo Perrone and Claudio Echeverri from Argentine football.

The Premier League club continue searching for talent from the same market and have now set their sights on Vélez Sarsfield’s Maher Carrizo.

That’s according to Soy del Millo, and they cover Manchester City interest and their plan for the 19-year-old.

The forward is a product of Vélez Sarsfield’s academy and was promoted to their senior team last year. He’s played 34 games so far, scoring eight goals and registering an assist.

Carrizo has a contract lasting until December 2026, which includes a €16m release clause. The report states Manchester City will put money on the table, with the suggestion they could activate his clause.

If City are successful in securing his services, the Argentina U20 international won’t immediately be part of Pep Guardiola’s plans. Instead, they plan to send him on loan to River Plate until the end of next year.

On Wednesday, Vélez Sarsfield won the Supercopa Internacional after beating Estudiantes in the final, and Carrizo played the full 90 minutes. After the tie, he spoke to ESPN to discuss his future, and Soy del Millo have relayed his comments.

“For now, I’m thinking about Vélez; I’ll leave the rest to my fans. It’s very difficult. I saw that they talked about it [possibly River Plater’s interest] on social media; I tried not to pay too much attention to it,” he said.

“Now I have to think about my future. And now I have to enjoy this achievement.”
