Bayern battle Man Utd to sign 27y/o Chelsea attacker; talks held with agent – report

Bayern Munich could battle Manchester United to sign out-of-favour Chelsea winger Christopher Nkunku in the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, and are reportedly chasing Bryan Mbuemo. However, it appears that they are still interested in signing another winger, and Nkunku has emerged as an option.

The French winger joined the Blues from RB Leipzig for £52m in 2023, but he has struggled with form and injury. Chelsea could be looking to offload him this summer, and as per The Times, have received interest from Man Utd.

Nkunku is currently in the United States, participating in the Club World Cup, but his future at Chelsea remains uncertain.

The 27-year-old worked under Christopher Vivell, the Manchester United director of recruitment, when he was technical director at Leipzig and then Chelsea. Naturally, there is a strong connection here, which gives the Red Devils a slight edge over Bayern.

The German champions were heavily linked with a move for Nkunku during the January transfer window, but they were reluctant to match Chelsea’s £60m valuation for the player.

Nkunku is notpart of Maresca’s long-term plans, and Bayern still want him this summer, although Luis Diaz has emerged as their top priority target.

Christian Falk informed CFBayern that Chelsea are only interested in selling the winger directly.

Bayern have started talks with Nkunku’s agent, Pini Zahavi. After Leroy Sane left the club to join Galatasaray, and following Jamal Musiala’s injury, Nkunku’s name has resurfaced as a potential option once again.

Nkunku could be a realistic target for Bayern Munich

Nkunku scored 47 goals in 119 Bundesliga games during four years at Leipzig, and everyone at Bayern are aware of his vast potential.

His move to Chelsea did not work according to his plans, and he could be tempted to return to Germany and regain his old form.

While Man Utd could be a good option for him, Nkunku may find it hard to reject Bayern straightaway if the Bavarian club come up with a good offer.
