Manchester City have been busier than most Premier League clubs throughout the 2025 summer transfer window.
After experiencing a tough 2024/25 season, Pep Guardiola entered the summer intending to add four to five new faces to his squad, a target that was achieved before the Manchester club jetted off to the FIFA Club World Cup.
Other bits of business included adding Pepijn Lijnders and James French to his coaching staff, while exits will need to take place over the coming weeks.
Once the transfer window shuts and the season gets underway, contracts will very likely be next on the agenda, and one Man City star deserves a new deal after what he achieved last season.

Man City should consider a new deal for Josko Gvardiol
Manchester City plan to offer Ruben Dias a new contract over the coming weeks, reported Fabrizio Romano recently, as the Portuguese star’s current deal expires in 2027.
Man City fans are divided on a new deal for Dias as the 28-year-old seems to be on a decline, and his displays at the FIFA Club World Cup did not help his cause.

A new contract would likely see the Portugal international get an increase on his current £180k-a-week salary, which could see him surpass Josko Gvardiol, who is currently earning £200k-a-week at the Etihad Stadium.
This would put both Dias and John Stones, with the English star receiving £250k-per-week at City, ahead of Gvardiol in the payroll, which seems unfair given the Croatian star has performed better than the duo for some time now.
With contracts also expiring in 2027, Rodri and Phil Foden may be more pressing matters for Man City; however, the Manchester club should now consider offering Gvardiol a new deal, even if his current one runs until 2028.
Josko Gvardiol deserves a new deal at Man City
Gvardiol was Man City’s Player of the Season for the 24/25 campaign, and should the Croatian star back that up with another solid term over the next 12 months, the three years remaining on his current contract will look very short, as clubs such as Real Madrid will likely become interested.
This is a key reason why the centre-back needs to be offered a new deal, as the 23-year-old is still very young and is only going to continue to get better over the coming years.
Mateo Kovacic recently labelled Gvardiol as “special” and described him as a player who could “dominate for years.”
Man City cannot run the risk of his contract getting shorter, and it is also unfair to see two centre-backs who have not been at the Croatia star’s level for some time, earn more than the 23-year-old does at the Etihad Stadium.
